Responsibilities
For Inpatient:
- Administers renal therapies (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, CRRT, ultrafiltration, apheresis) under limited supervision.
- Oversees Patient Care Technicians and clerical staff; educates ICU staff on CRRT.
- Monitors patient responses, adjusts treatment as needed, and communicates with the interdisciplinary team.
- Accurately records all treatment-related data in both facility and hospital systems.
- Conducts machine safety tests, cleans equipment, and ensures proper disinfection.
- Prepares for treatments, troubleshoots equipment, and conserves supplies.
- Participates in staff training, meetings, and quality improvement activities; reports adverse events.
- May provide in-center care and assist with special projects or other tasks as assigned.
For Outpatient:
- Manages all aspects of hemodialysis delivery for assigned patients.
- Conducts ongoing patient assessments, updates care plans, and educates patients/families.
- Administers medications per protocols and responds to emergencies.
- Serves as a resource for staff, assists with training new employees.
- Ensures proper lab collection and follow-up; informs patients about transplant/treatment options.
Qualifications
- Male/Female
- BS Nursing graduate
- PRC Registered
- NCLEX-RN passer
- 2 years related experience for in-patient setting and 1 year for out-patient
- BLS CPR required. For in-patient roles, certification in Nephrology Nursing, Apheresis Nursing, or both is strongly encouraged.
- For In-Patient:
- Must have at least 2 years of nephrology nursing experience as a Registered Nurse within the past two years.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in inpatient dialysis nursing is required.
- Proven ability to perform comprehensive assessments on critically ill patients.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) CPR certification is required.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification is preferred but not mandatory
- For Out-Patient:
- At least 1 year of nephrology nursing experience as an RN within the past two years.
- Experience in chronic hemodialysis is required.
- Must hold a current BLS CPR certification or have successfully completed it.
